Ben Eldridge Style Banjo
This workshop is a deep dive into Ben’s influences, approach and style, based on his book, On Banjo – Recollections, Licks and Solos, co-authored by instructor Randy Barrett. We’ll dig into his favorite (and most famous) breaks, including Appalachian Rain, Rider, Hail to the Redskins, Muddy Water, Pan American and more.

Ben Eldridge is one of the most beloved and influential bluegrass banjo players of his generation. He grew up in Richmond, VA and fell in love with hillbilly music watching the Old Dominion Barn Dance. Ben moved to the Washington, DC area after college to work as a mathematician and played for fun at jam sessions. A string of unlikely events led to the creation of the supergroup Seldom Scene in 1971, a progressive band that changed the course of bluegrass music.

The workshop is recommended for intermediate to advanced banjo players, age 16+.

Students will need a copy of the book. Please purchase in advance, or plan to purchase directly from Randy at the workshop. Randy will offer the book at a discounted price of $30.
