Learn 1:1 with Cheick Hamala, a West African historian in the Griot tradition and a world-recognized master of the ngoni, a Malian traditional instrument. Cheick has toured and performed with some of the greatest musical legends, and received a Grammy nomination for his collaboration with Bob Carlin, “From Mali to America.”

Cheick teaches ngoni, banjo, guitar, and ukulele - all in the traditional styles he learned in Mali. Students can expect to learn traditional melodies and motifs by ear, and will come away with a unique perspective on their instrument of choice.

These sessions with Cheick are the first in our new Master Sessions series, which provide a unique opportunity for students to learn one-on-one with acclaimed teaching artists as they pass through the area. We look forward to sharing more as the series progresses.
Master Sessions available with Cheick Hamala: April 26
