How to Jam - for Kids! (Ages 6-12)
1:00 - 2:00 PM ESTStudents age 6-12 are invited to join Mari Carlson for a youth jamming class. All instruments are welcome. We’ll sing, tap our toes, figure out chords, and pick out melodies as a group.

Intro to Celtic Repertoire
1:15 PM – 2:45 PM ESTCeltic cellist Ellen Gira leads a monthly repertoire class where you’ll learn a groovy Celtic tune and create a fun arrangement as an ensemble. This class will also offer ideas to take your playing further and improve your session playing.

Intro to Bluegrass Repertoire with Justin Heath
1:00 - 2:30 PM ESTThis class will help students expand their repertoire while honing the skills required to play with others and be creative while doing it.

Music Time with Mr. Gabe
10:00 AM - 10:30 AM ESTStrictly for ages 18 mos. to 3 years, This is a classic toddler music and movement class led by Takoma Park’s favorite children’s musician, Mr. Gabe. Registration includes a spot for one student and one caregiver. Activities will include finger plays, dancing, traditional and modern singalongs, and introduction to basic rhythm instruments – all designed to support your child’s development and stimulate their interest in music.

Jazz Repertoire Class with Noah Gitlis
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM ESTEach month Noah Gitlis teaches a different Jazz Standard emphasizing the skills needed to play in jazz jam sessions. Learn the melody, harmony, accompaniment, and rhythm to your favorite jazz standards. All instruments are welcome.

Ukulele Repertoire for All!
Each month, learn a fun song for ukulele in the pop, rock, or folk realms. Each song will have two arrangements - Beginner + Intermediate. Beginners can push their skills with chord changes and intermediate players can enjoy tinkering with riffs and engaging in new strum/picking patterns.

Old Time Repertoire Class
Learn Oldtime Fiddle Tunes with Jonathan Vocke. Each class will cover 2 new tunes using the aural method and source recordings. Chords and rhythmic nuance of each tune are discussed in depth. All instruments welcome!

Intro to Celtic Step Dance with Jocelyn Petit
12:00 PM - 1:00 PMCome tap your toes and move your feet to the fun music of Canada's East Coast, and Québec! This will be an introduction to: (1) Cape Breton stepdance, from Nova Scotia, and (2) the seated "podorhythmie" foot rhythms of Québec. Everyone is welcome - whether you are a seasoned dancer or have never danced before.

Beginner Celtic Ensemble
7:00 - 8:00 PM ESTBeginner and Beginner/intermediate students are invited to join a Celtic group lead by expert teacher/educator + Fiddle player Mari Carlson. Continue your growth with Celtic music and work your way up to being a regular session player. This meets for five sessions, (usually) bi-weekly on Wednesdays from 7-8pm. Class dates are: Wed 4/2, 4/16, 4/30, 5/14, and 5/28. The ensemble class culminates with a Performance on May 28th at Takoma Spark.

Looking for a way to take your playing to the next level while making music with others? Join our Pop, Rock & Country Band at the School of Musical Traditions! This group class meets bi-weekly (every other week) and is open to musicians of all ages who can play a song from start to finish. Whether you’re a high school student looking for a creative outlet or an adult wanting to reconnect with music, this band is for you!

Beatles Ensemble
12:00 - 1:00 PM ESTJoin SMT Director Maureen Andary every other Saturday from 12-1pm in a small, acoustic Beatles cover band! Open to all instruments, we'll also trade off on some hand percussion and learn at least 5-7 songs to perform at a show. All you need to be able to do is play a song from start to finish. Band Rehearsals are: Saturdays 4/19, 5/3, 5/17, 5/31, 6/7 with a performance + party for friends and family Sun June 8th :)
