Blues Guitar in Dropped D Tuning
BLUES GUITAR IN DROPPED D TUNING: alternate tunings are a useful way to get fresh ideas for arrangements, voicings and sounds on the guitar - and in the case of dropped D, we only have to re-tune one string! This simple tuning has been used by many blues musicians and also works well with other styles of music. We’ll begin with an overview of the tuning and if time allows will put these elements together to learn “Big Road Blues” a song from Delta Blues musician Tommy Johnson. Intermediate level: you should have a basic knowledge of guitar in standard tuning on the first five frets. Handouts will be available but recording devices are always a good idea.
