Gabby Cameron
Gabby Cameron, native of Raleigh, North Carolina, interprets the world through two modalities: her banjo, and songwriting. Writing since age 7, her songs delve into the intricacies of storytelling, exploring how stories are the connective tissue of a uniquely human experience. Sonically traversing a multitude of musical styles, the three-finger banjoist incorporates elements of bluegrass, old-time, jazz, and classical music into her performance. Cameron is currently an Artist in Residence at Strathmore. She is also pursuing her PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Maryland. Cameron's academic work garnered her the 2022 IBMA Neil Rosenberg Bluegrass Scholar Award. In 2023, Cameron was invited to study under Béla Fleck at the Blue Ridge Banjo Camp in Brevard, NC. She has performed in the acclaimed halls of the Strathmore Music Center and the White House. In addition to her solo work, Cameron performs with Cherry Blossom Special and folk duo Gabby & Nick. Cameron proudly plays Gold Tone musical instruments and resides in Baltimore, MD with her husband Nick Cameron.
