Ian Riggs
Hello, my name is Ian M. Riggs. I teach Double Bass, Electric Bass, Guitar, Piano, music theory, Composition, Jazz improvisation, and harmony singing. I also coach solo performers, ensembles, bands and singers in execution and performance.

I teach in a fun yet focused environment, guiding students on what they’re currently learning/playing while also reinforcing concepts on how to practice efficiently without stress or anxiety. I’m familiar with a wide range of styles and playing environments- from Irish and Appalachian folk, to orchestras and Jazz bands- which enables me to meet students where they are and give them the tools and encouragement I believe will help them grow as musicians.

I studied at the Oberlin Conservatory and graduated from the New School/Mannes College of music with a degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music. I’ve taught privately for many years, as well as with organizations such as the Inter Schools Orchestra of New York, the Jalopy Theater and College Park Youth Musical Traditions.

Thanks for reading! I’m looking forward to seeing you in the practice or ensemble room soon!
