Joanna Clare
Joanna has been playing the violin since she was three years old and has been teaching individual Suzuki violin and Irish fiddle lessons online and in person since 2020. She was classically trained by The Takas Quartet's Harumi Rhodes and Syracuse Symphoria's concertmaster, Peter Rovit. NY-based Sligo fiddle master Brian Conway taught her for many years as well. She now has certifications to teach Suzuki Violin Units 1 - 4, and has also taken Every Child Can!; Suzuki Early Childhood Education Stage 1 and Stage 2; Play!: Exploring Creativity, Developing Autonomy, and Finding Meaning in Music Lessons; and Inclusive Group Class Teaching, all through the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She also teaches from the Creativity Ability Development method, which focuses on improvisation. Joanna has led workshops at The Philadelphia Folk Festival, The Baltimore Irish Trad Fest, The Maryland Irish Festival, The Philadelphia Ceili Group Festival, and The Irish Weekend 2024 (Ismaning, Germany). She currently teaches privately, as well as for The Baltimore Irish Music School, where she has taught a variety of group and private lessons since the school's revisioning in the fall of 2023 and started teaching at The School of Musical Traditions in January 2025. Besides teaching, Joanna is in the Irish groups Celtic Corridor and The Mount Clare Connection. In 2022, she released her debut album of traditional Irish music called To Keep the Candle Burning.
