Jonathan Metcalf-Burton
Jonathan has a bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies Saxophone Performance from the University of Maryland, College Park. He tailors his teaching to the unique needs of each student, working with learners of all levels. Jonathan enjoys sharing his techniques and tricks for practicing, believing that music is one of the most vital art forms for personal expression. He teaches saxophone, flute, and piano, drawing on his extensive performance experience with bands like the University of Maryland Jazz Lab Band, the Montgomery College Jazz Ensemble and World Ensemble, Sepp Walzer Fest Band, the Flutes on the Brink flute choir, and the On the One funk band. His achievements include being featured in the Renton Technical College Foundation Annual Report Journal 2022-2023 and receiving the Outstanding Jazz Saxophone Performance Award from Montgomery College in 2016.
In addition to teaching, Jonathan is a professional band instrument repair technician. He earned his certification in band instrument repair from Renton Technical College in May 2024 and is a proud member of the National Institute of Band Instrument Repair Technology. His hands-on knowledge of instrument maintenance enhances his ability to guide students in caring for their instruments and addressing issues on the spot. Outside of his professional life, Jonathan enjoys hiking, rock climbing, dancing, and traveling. He values education, loves learning from others, and is passionate about embracing each day and appreciating all forms of art.
