Perry Cowdery
Perry is a musician, teacher and composer originally from Centreville, VA. They grew up inspired by a wide variety of music, from Motown and Musical Theater to Funk, Metal and Jazz. As an active performer, Perry draws on these diverse influences and their eclectic musical experiences in everything they do. You may have recently heard them playing guitar for various musicals around the area, at institutions like Olney Theater Center, The Kennedy Center, Constellation Theater, Signature Theater, and more. They just moved to Takoma Park after completing an 8 month national tour with the musical Dear Evan Hansen, and are excited to get to know the community through music!

Perry went to school in Chicago and obtained a B.A. in Music Composition at Columbia College Chicago. During this time they delved deeper into their love for Jazz, Funk and Pop, while also expanding into electronic, classical, experimental and free improvisational music. They also performed regularly around the Chicago in musicals, and with various bands including Fatkid, their performance art/experimental punk group, and Dod Kalm, a jazz quartet that played all original compositions.

As a teacher, Perry knows no two students are the same, and believes in individualized lesson planning. Exceptional focus will be paid to the students needs, influences and interests. They believe most musical concepts can be taught through artists we know and love, and any other concepts or materials introduced will be solely in an effort to cultivate and meet the students goals. Perry also believes the context, history and inspiration of any piece of music is just as important as the notes. perrycowdery.com
